You’re supposed to chime in with a Jackson Five song there.
I’m back from the ABC Kids Expo and holy shit was it enormous.
Originally I wasn’t even sure if I was going to go because I had to fly and stay on my own dime so I wanted to be sure it was worth it, but boy was it ever. I met so many people and saw so many cool things that I wished I’d stayed longer.
It’s a real mixed bag though. There were some booths where every single person knew what each and every part did (and where it was made), and then there were other booths where childless PR girls in heels didn’t know how to collapse the stroller they were showing me – to be fair the show is huge and some of the bigger companies have to hire extra staff just to have enough people there to answer questions. It just cracked me up when I asked a girl if a high chair cover was washable and she didn’t understand why I would want to wash it. Oh, I don’t know, rice cereal that dries to the consistency of cement, banana goo, back shits…. the list is endless, my Poppet.
One of the most reassuring things to me is how many people are passionate about baby stuff and truly care about making things that are better for parents, babies, the environment, etc. It made me feel good as I ran from booth to booth on very little sleep in clothes that I’d miss packed because when I read that it was cool in Las Vegas this time of year I didn’t realized that meant “Nevada cool”, not “Canada cool”. Nevada cool means you can wear jeans with your t-shirt. Canada cool means your urine freezes midstream if you pee outside*.
I’m a little overwhelmed though. I have so much to tell you but I don’t want to scream it at you in a flurry of posts because that will just freak both of us out. Plus, some of this stuff isn’t available until the summer so there’s no point getting you all jazzed about something for pregnancy that will only be available when you’re holding a 6-month old. Boo-uns.
But in the meantime, Sarah, the forward facing jogging stroller I found is from Mountain Buggy – it’s an attachment that you add onto the frame and it looks pretty cool.
Rya, I couldn’t find a free-standing breast pump that you could essentially strap to you. All the hands free stuff still required a stationary unit. In all fairness, I didn’t get to a lot of the nursing stuff though.
Michelle, the Ergo Wrap launches in February and it’s $79 so don’t give birth before that ; )
Holly and Megan, I didn’t get to UPPAbaby (sorry, I ran out of time) but I will make a point of researching their car seats and Vista.
Kate, I really like the new Mamas & Papas Armadillo stroller for city living – it’s a bit of an umbrella stroller hybrid. I’m going to do a review on it shortly.
The short and curly is that there is some pretty cool stuff out there, and I’ll let your know about it all once I organize my cards and get my facts straight. I’m teaming up to bring you a Top 10 list of all the goodies we saw so stay tuned!
I’m off to drink my Diet Snapple!
* I live in Toronto so the people that live in real Canada are rolling their eyes at me now.
